New Delhi [India], December 1: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal confirmed on Sunday that his party will not form any alliances for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections scheduled for early 2025. Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal stated, “There will be no alliance in Delhi for the assembly elections.”
Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi, also lashed out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over a recent attack on him during his ‘padyatra’. He revealed that a liquid was thrown at him, which could have been harmful, and expressed disappointment that Shah had not taken action after the incident. “I had the expectation that Amit Shah would take some action after I raised the issue of law and order. However, I was attacked during my padyatra. Liquid was thrown at me, it was harmless, but it could have been harmful,” Kejriwal said.
The AAP leader also commented on the arrest of his MLA, Naresh Balyan, defending him as a victim of gangsters. Kejriwal explained that Balyan had been receiving ransom calls from criminals and had filed a complaint with the Delhi Police. “Yesterday, one of our MLAs was arrested. He was a victim of gangsters. He had made a written complaint to the Delhi Police about receiving threatening calls from Kapil Sangwan and the Nandu Gang,” he said.
Kejriwal further criticized the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi, claiming that gangsters had taken control of the city. “For the last two to three years, the law and order situation has worsened. Today, people live in an atmosphere of terror. It seems Delhi has been taken over by gangsters,” Kejriwal added.
Earlier, Kejriwal had slammed Amit Shah over a bus marshal’s attempt to throw water at him during the ‘padyatra’. He accused Shah of focusing on targeting him instead of addressing rising crime in the city. In a post on X, Kejriwal wrote, “Amit Shah Ji, what will happen by stopping me? Stop crime in Delhi. Will crime in Delhi decrease by stopping me? Will open shootouts in Delhi stop? Will the women of Delhi become safe? Will the traders of Delhi be secure?”
The Delhi Police detained the bus marshal, identified as Ashok Jha, who had tried to throw “water” at Kejriwal while he was interacting with the public. The police are currently questioning Jha to determine the motive behind the act. AAP leader Satyendra Jain has alleged that the incident was orchestrated by the BJP.
