The much-debated film The Kerala Story 2 Goes Beyond has cleared certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A 16+ rating, but not without significant changes. According to reports, the board has directed the makers to implement around 16 cuts and modifications before release.
Visual Edits Ordered
As per the report, the CBFC has asked for:
- A 50% reduction in kissing visuals and rape scenes
- A lip-lock sequence trimmed by 7 seconds
- Rape scenes shortened by 20 seconds
- Two violent scenes — one involving slapping and another showing a woman’s head being hit — reduced by 2 seconds each
Additionally, a bulldozer demolition sequence involving the accused’s house has been modified. Three dialogues were reportedly altered, and one word muted.
Disclaimer & Documentation Requirements
Beyond scene cuts, the board directed the filmmakers to:
- Add a disclaimer stating the film is based on true events
- Extend the disclaimer duration by 2 minutes and 3 seconds
- Include a voice-over alongside the disclaimer
- Submit the complete script with dialogues
- Provide supporting documents validating the “true events” claim
- Submit a consent letter for casting a minor
After incorporating the required changes, the film received certification on February 16. Its final runtime stands at 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 24 seconds.
Release & Legal Challenge
The film is scheduled to release on February 27, 2026, though petitions seeking a ban have been filed. The Kerala High Court is expected to view the film before delivering its verdict on the matter.
With controversy surrounding both its subject matter and certification process, The Kerala Story 2 continues to remain at the centre of public and legal debate ahead of its theatrical release.
