Winona Ryder Joins Netflix’s Wednesday Season 3, Reuniting With Tim Burton And Jenna Ortega

Netflix’s hit dark fantasy series Wednesday is expanding its cast with a major Hollywood name. Winona Ryder has officially joined the cast for Season 3, reuniting her with director Tim Burton and lead star Jenna Ortega.

While Ryder’s role remains a closely guarded secret, her casting has already created excitement among fans of the gothic series. The trio recently collaborated on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, where Ortega portrayed Ryder’s on-screen daughter, making this reunion especially noteworthy.

Tim Burton Reacts to Winona Ryder’s Casting

Tim Burton, who directs and executive produces Wednesday, expressed his excitement about working with Ryder again.

“I am so happy that Winona has joined us; she fits right into this world. And she’s a dear friend. I always feel lucky to work with her,” Burton said.

Show creators Al Gough and Miles Millar also praised the casting, calling Ryder a perfect fit for the Addams universe.

“When it comes to Outcasts, Winona Ryder is the GOAT. Her legendary partnership with Tim Burton has defined some of cinema’s most unforgettable characters. We’re thrilled to welcome her to Nevermore,” they said.

A Long History With Tim Burton

Ryder’s collaboration with Burton dates back to the 1988 classic Beetlejuice. She later starred in Edward Scissorhands and voiced a character in Frankenweenie. Her gothic screen persona and eerie charm make her a natural addition to the dark, quirky world of Nevermore Academy.

Return to Netflix After Stranger Things

The announcement marks Ryder’s return to Netflix following the conclusion of Stranger Things, where she played Joyce Byers for nearly a decade. Her role in Wednesday signals a fresh collaboration with the streaming platform.

Season 3 Cast and Production Updates

Season 3 continues to expand its ensemble cast. Eva Green has already been confirmed as Ophelia, Morticia Addams’ sister. The core cast, led by Jenna Ortega, also includes Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, and Moosa Mostafa.

Wednesday remains one of Netflix’s most successful English-language series, with its previous seasons drawing massive global audiences.

Filming is currently underway in Ireland, with Season 3 expected to premiere in 2027.
