BULANDSHAHR, UP — What was supposed to be a celebratory ‘ghudchadhi’ ceremony turned into a violent assault on a serviceman and a senior educator. The victims were returning from a family engagement ceremony when they found the Jahangirabad road blocked by members of a wedding procession who were allegedly consuming alcohol openly and dancing to loud music in the middle of the thoroughfare.
Details of the Violent Escalation
According to the police complaint and eyewitness accounts, the situation spiraled out of control within minutes:
- The Trigger: Pratham’s father, Jitendra Singh, honked his car horn to request passage through the jam. This simple act provoked the intoxicated group.
- The Assault: When the father and son objected to the verbal abuse directed at them, members of the procession reportedly pulled them out of the vehicle.
- Weapons Used: The mob allegedly used sticks and iron rods to beat the duo. Both victims sustained serious injuries to their heads and limbs.
- Alleged Robbery: During the chaos, the victims claimed that their gold chain and wristwatch were forcibly taken by the attackers.
Medical and Legal Status
- Hospitalization: Both Pratham and Jitendra were rushed to a local facility and later referred to the District Hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
- Police Action: Bulandshahr police have registered a case against seven named individuals and several other unidentified persons.
- Custody: One suspect has already been detained and booked for breach of peace, while raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.
