Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has joined the growing chorus of critics against The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond. Arriving in Kochi for the Filmfare Awards on February 22, 2026, Kashyap delivered a blunt and profanity-laced critique of the film, labeling it “bullsh*t propaganda.”
“Who Feeds Beef Like This?”
Kashyap’s most specific criticism was aimed at a viral scene from the trailer depicting a character being forcefully fed beef. The director questioned the realism and creative intent behind the scene:
“Aisa beef kaun khilata hai? Aisa koi khichdi bhi nahi khilata hai (Who feeds someone beef like this? No one is fed even khichdi in this manner). It’s a shit movie, it’s called crap.”
Allegations of Greed
Beyond the content, Kashyap attacked the motives of the filmmakers—producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah and director Kamakhya Narayan Singh. He alleged that the sequel is a purely commercial move designed to exploit communal divisions for profit.
- “Propaganda” Label: He categorized the film alongside others he believes are made to “please” specific political segments and divide the public.
- Commercial Motives: He referred to the makers as “greedy,” stating that the project is driven by money rather than any genuine storytelling intent.
The Rising Legal and Political Storm
Kashyap’s comments come as the film faces significant headwinds just days before its February 27 release:
| Opposition Source | Action/Statement |
| Kerala High Court | Issued a notice to the producers and the CBFC following a writ petition challenging the film’s certification and its “inflammatory” promos. |
| CM Pinarayi Vijayan | Labeled the film “anti-Kerala propaganda” and warned it threatens the state’s secular fabric. |
| SP’s Abu Asim Azmi | Dismissed the film’s narrative of “Love Jihad” as a collection of lies meant to harass the Muslim community. |
The first film, The Kerala Story (2023), was a major box-office hit despite similar controversies. Producer Vipul Shah maintains that the sequel “goes beyond Kerala” to expose a nationwide conspiracy and that the team is simply “telling the truth.”
