Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 30: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday criticized the government for not allowing serious issues like the Sambhal incident and the Adani issue to be discussed in Parliament. Speaking to the media, Raut questioned, “Why are these important matters being sidelined? When we stand with the Leader of the Opposition to raise these questions, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are adjourned within seconds. What kind of democracy are we left with? Why is the government so afraid of discussions?”
Both Houses of Parliament have been adjourned until December, unable to conduct significant business due to ongoing protests and continuous sloganeering by opposition MPs for the fourth consecutive day.
Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram also expressed hope that the government would allow the opposition to raise crucial issues. “I hope the government is open-hearted and permits the opposition to bring up important matters. It is essential that the government facilitates a space where the opposition can voice its concerns, while still ensuring that it can carry out its own agenda,” Chidambaram told ANI.
Parliament proceedings have been disrupted since the beginning of the Winter Session, with opposition parties demanding discussions on the Adani issue, violence in Manipur, and the Sambhal incident.
Before the session was adjourned, Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar strongly criticized the ongoing disruptions. “This cannot be appreciated. We have become a laughing stock, and these disruptions are widely disapproved by the public. We are setting a dangerous precedent. Our actions are not serving the public interest, and we are drifting towards irrelevance,” Dhankhar said.
The Chairman also expressed deep regret over the disruption of normal House business, adding that Rule 267 was being misused to cause disruption.
The Winter Session of Parliament, which began on November 25, has faced consistent adjournments, with both Houses unable to proceed with significant work. The session is scheduled to run until December 20.
