The good news is that oxytocin does not require supplements. Luke Coutinho suggests simple daily actions to increase it naturally:

  • Hold hands with a loved one
  • Make meaningful eye contact
  • Pet an animal
  • Laugh and share moments with others

He also emphasises that intimacy is not just romantic. Emotional closeness, feeling seen and heard, and acts of kindness can all raise oxytocin levels. Even expressing gratitude or helping others releases oxytocin in both the giver and receiver.

Connection Helps Healing

In his caption, Coutinho shared that patients with strong social and emotional connections often heal faster during consultations. “It’s never medicine alone. We have an in-house pharmacy within us,” he wrote.

His message was clear: you don’t need a romantic partner to feel connected. Friends, family, pets and community can all provide meaningful connection.
