Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas has confirmed that Citadel will return for a second season, even as questions continue to swirl around the future of the ambitious spy franchise. The Prime Video series, in which she plays a lead role, will move forward with its next instalment, but the actor admitted she is unsure about the long-term plans for the universe.
In an interview with Variety, Priyanka said that decisions about the show’s future are beyond her control and that she prefers to focus on her work rather than the business side of the franchise. “We have Season 2 for sure, but the rest? I have no idea. I don’t ask. I go to work, do my job and I leave,” she said.
When Citadel premiered, it was billed as one of the most expensive streaming series ever produced. The first season reportedly cost around $300 million for just six episodes, with Amazon positioning it as a global spy universe with multiple international spin-offs in different languages. However, the Italian series Citadel: Diana and the Indian spin-off Citadel: Honey Bunny were both discontinued after their debut seasons, raising doubts about the original масштаб of the franchise’s expansion plans.
Despite the mixed critical reception and massive production costs, filming for the second season of the main series is currently underway. Priyanka’s confirmation indicates that the flagship show remains a priority for the streaming platform, even as the broader global strategy is reassessed.
The actor also recalled how she first became involved in the project through the Russo brothers, who serve as executive producers. She revealed that Joe Russo had casually sent her the script via text message. “He just dropped the script on text and said, ‘Check this out.’ That’s classic Joe style. And here we are four years later,” she said.
Beyond Citadel, Priyanka Chopra Jonas has a packed slate of upcoming projects. She is currently working on the Hollywood film The Bluff and is also set to star in filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus Varanasi.
For now, while the global expansion of the Citadel universe remains uncertain, Season 2 of the main series is firmly on track, with Priyanka Chopra Jonas continuing as the face of the franchise.
