The Mumbai Crime Branch has made a major breakthrough in the ongoing extortion case targeting Bollywood star Ranveer Singh. Investigators have identified Harry Boxer, a top-tier operative of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, as the voice behind the chilling WhatsApp note that demanded ₹1 crore from the actor.
The threat follows a string of intimidation attempts against the film industry, including a recent firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence.
The Digital Trail: VPNs and Interpol
The Crime Branch’s investigation has revealed a sophisticated attempt to hide the sender’s identity:
- The Match: Forensic experts and voice-matching analysis have tentatively linked the voice note to Harry Boxer, who is currently believed to be hiding in the United States.
- VPN Evasion: The message was sent using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to mask the sender’s IP address and physical location.
- Global Coordination: Given the international routing of the message, Mumbai Police have officially sought Interpol’s assistance to trace the digital origin and verify the country from which the threat was transmitted.

Security Tightened for Ranveer & Aayush Sharma
The extortion attempt is not an isolated incident. The Bishnoi gang has reportedly expanded its radar to several celebrities:
- Ranveer Singh: Security has been beefed up at his South Mumbai residence. His manager’s statement was recorded three days ago.
- Aayush Sharma: The Antim actor (and Salman Khan’s brother-in-law) also received a threatening email via Proton Mail (an encrypted service). His manager’s statement was recorded on Wednesday night.
- Rohit Shetty: The Crime Branch has invoked MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) in the firing case involving Shetty’s house, suspecting a coordinated campaign to revive the “protection money” era of the 90s.
Who is Harry Boxer?
A key lieutenant in the Lawrence Bishnoi network, Harry Boxer recently gained notoriety for:
- Kapil Sharma Cafe Firing: Allegedly orchestrating a shooting at comedian Kapil Sharma’s café in Canada last year.
- Internal Gang War: Releasing audio recordings threatening rival gangster Rohit Godara while claiming to be operating from the U.S. alongside Lawrence’s brother, Arzoo Bishnoi.
