KANPUR — The investigation into the high-speed crash involving a ₹12-crore Lamborghini in Kanpur’s upscale Gwaltoli area has reached a critical standoff. While the police assert that forensic evidence and CCTV footage definitively place Shivam Mishra, son of prominent tobacco tycoon KK Mishra, in the driver’s seat, the family maintains he is being framed and that a hired driver was at the helm.
The accident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon on VIP Road, left six people injured and multiple vehicles destroyed.
1. The “Smoking Gun” Evidence
Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal confirmed on Tuesday that the initial FIR against an “unidentified person” has been updated to name Shivam Mishra as the lead accused.
- The Footage: Two videos are central to the case. One CCTV clip and a mobile video recorded by bystanders purportedly show the Mishra family’s private security detail rushing to the crashed supercar, opening the driver-side door, and pulling Shivam out.
- Eyewitness Accounts: Multiple bystanders have reportedly recorded statements claiming they saw the young businessman driving just moments before the vehicle veered onto the pavement.
- Police Stance: “The probe establishes that Mishra was driving. We will shortly file a charge sheet, and there will be no laxity,” Commissioner Lal stated.
2. The Family’s Defense: The “Delhi Treatment” and a Driver’s Affidavit
Tobacco baron KK Mishra appeared at the Gwaltoli police station on Tuesday after allegedly non-cooperating with investigators for 48 hours. He presented a sharply different version of events:
- The Driver Claim: The family’s lawyer, Dharmendra Singh, has submitted an affidavit from a driver named Mohan Lal, who claims he was the one driving.
- The “Dizzy” Theory: KK Mishra told reporters that his son felt unwell and began to doze off in the passenger seat. He claimed a tempo hit the Lamborghini, causing the driver to lose control.
- Alleged Video Editing: Mishra senior alleged that the police and media are only showing “selective” footage. He claims the security team pulled the driver out first, but that portion of the video was conveniently omitted.
3. Victims of the Rampage
The Delhi-registered Lamborghini reportedly went on a “rampage,” mounting the pavement and striking several people before coming to a halt.
| Victim | Injury/Damage |
| Taufiq Ahmed | Sustained serious leg injuries; currently hospitalized. |
| Vishal & Sonu Tripathi | Motorcycle riders; sustained multiple injuries. |
| Public Property | An auto-rickshaw and a parked motorcycle were “badly damaged.” |
4. Current Status: Where is Shivam Mishra?
Despite being named in the FIR, Shivam has not yet joined the probe. His legal team and father claim he is currently in Delhi for medical treatment following the shock of the accident. Police, however, are skeptical of the delay and are expected to move for a formal summons if he does not appear within the week.
