  • Samajwadi Party’s Stance:
SP MP Zia Ur Rehman demanded that the inquiry committee include a sitting Supreme Court judge. He also called for the Supreme Court to intervene in the ongoing district court proceedings regarding the mosque survey.
Rehman criticized selective actions that could disturb communal harmony, urging for proper application of the Place of Worship Act.
  • State Government’s Position:
Deputy Chief Minister KP Maurya assured strict enforcement of law and order, accusing the Samajwadi Party of attempting to disrupt peace. He warned against any attempts to destabilize the region, emphasizing, “The government will not tolerate actions that disturb harmony.”

Background of the Incident

The violence erupted during an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) examination of the Shahi Jama Masjid, amid disputes over its historical status. The clashes saw stone-pelting and altercations between locals and law enforcement, leading to casualties and injuries.
