Purnia MP Pappu Yadav was shifted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Saturday after his health conditions worsened following his recent arrest. The Member of Parliament was transported on a stretcher from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), where he had been initially admitted on Friday night shortly after being taken into custody.
The Superintendent of PMCH, Dr. Rajiv Kumar Singh, confirmed that a comprehensive medical examination is currently underway. Addressing the media, Dr. Singh stated that the medical team is prioritizing the MP’s stability while ensuring other patients are not disturbed. “Pappu Yadav’s ultrasound is being conducted to assess his condition,” Dr. Singh added.
The arrest stems from a long-standing legal battle involving an alleged land dispute case dating back to 1995. According to Patna SP City Bhanu Pratap Singh, the MP failed to appear in court on a scheduled date, prompting the execution of an arrest warrant. The case involves multiple sections of the old IPC (now replaced by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita), including fraud, forgery, and criminal conspiracy.
Security and Safety Concerns
Before being taken into custody at his Patna residence, Yadav expressed significant anxiety regarding his safety and the manner of his arrest. He told reporters:
“I am not well… I don’t know what will happen with me. Police reached here in civil uniform like criminals. I thought they had come to kill me.”
The MP questioned the necessity of the arrest in a 35-year-old case, suggesting that house arrest would have been a more appropriate measure given his health and the court’s upcoming summons. He initially refused to go to the police station, requesting instead to be taken directly to the court.
