Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s 175 Powers India To Record 6th U-19 World Cup Title With Crushing Win Over England

India clinched a record-extending sixth ICC U-19 World Cup title on Friday with a commanding 100-run victory over England in the final at Harare, thanks to a once-in-a-generation innings from teenage prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

In what is already being hailed as one of the greatest knocks in U-19 World Cup history, the 14-year-old opener smashed a jaw-dropping 175 off just 80 balls, propelling India to a mammoth 411 for 9 after England chose to bowl first. The total is the highest ever recorded in a U-19 World Cup final.

Set an almost impossible target of 412, England fought hard but were eventually bowled out for 311 in 40.2 overs, unable to withstand India’s disciplined and well-rounded bowling attack.

A Knock for the Ages on the Biggest Stage

Suryavanshi’s innings was nothing short of extraordinary. He reached his century in just 55 balls, making it the second-fastest hundred in U-19 World Cup history, and never took his foot off the accelerator.

His final tally included a staggering 15 sixes and 15 fours, with an incredible 150 of his 175 runs coming in boundaries. The Harare Sports Club was turned into a personal playground as England’s bowlers struggled for answers.

The teenager reached his first fifty off 32 balls, while his next fifty came in just 23 deliveries, underlining the sheer brutality of his assault.

World Records Tumble as Suryavanshi Rewrites History

Suryavanshi’s innings shattered multiple records:

  • Highest individual score in a U-19 World Cup final
  • Fastest 150 in U-19 cricket (71 balls), surpassing England’s Ben Mayes
  • Most sixes in a Youth ODI innings
  • Youngest centurion in U-19 World Cup history
  • Most sixes in a single U-19 World Cup edition (22), eclipsing Dewald Brevis’ long-standing record of 18

To put his dominance into perspective, teammate Vedant Trivedi faced just four balls while Suryavanshi raced from 100 to 150.

England Bowlers Left Helpless

England’s bowling attack bore the full brunt of Suryavanshi’s onslaught. Left-arm spinner Ralphie Albert and off-spinner Farhad Ahmed were taken apart for 27 and 22 runs respectively in single overs.

Seamer Manny Lumsden endured a torrid outing, conceding 81 runs in eight overs, while Sebastian Morgan leaked 74 runs from nine.

India’s run rate hovered close to 10 runs per over at the halfway stage, with projections briefly touching the 500-run mark.

Partnerships and Late Contributions Keep Momentum Going

Before being dismissed in the 26th over while attempting a scoop off Manny Lumsden — caught neatly by wicketkeeper Thomas Rew — Suryavanshi had already done irreparable damage.

England players, a mix of relief and admiration evident on their faces, rushed to congratulate him — a rare moment of sportsmanship acknowledging a once-in-a-lifetime innings.

Suryavanshi added a crucial 142-run partnership with captain Ayush Mhatre, who scored a composed 53 off 51 balls.

After the opener’s departure, valuable contributions came from:

  • Abhigyan Kundu (40 off 31)
  • Vedant Trivedi (32 off 36)
  • Vihaan Malhotra (30 off 36)
  • Kanishk Chouhan (37 off 20)

Though England managed to slow the scoring rate briefly, India were never in danger of losing control.

England’s Fightback Falls Short

Chasing the massive target, England showed grit, led by a brilliant counterattacking 115 off 67 balls from Caleb Falconer. His knock ensured the margin of defeat remained respectable and left a strong impression on the global stage.

However, India’s bowlers operated as a cohesive unit, applying consistent pressure and picking up wickets at regular intervals to seal a comprehensive victory.

A New Chapter in India’s U-19 Legacy

India last lifted the U-19 World Cup in 2022, and this triumph further cements the nation’s dominance at the age-group level. Much like past champion sides featuring future stars such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, this team has now carved out its own identity — marked by ruthlessness, depth, and fearlessness.

At the heart of it all stands Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a prodigious talent whose performance on the biggest stage suggests Indian cricket may have unearthed its next global superstar.
