Kapil Sharma takes a dig at Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang

During a star-studded Next on Netflix event in Mumbai on February 3, 2026, comedian Kapil Sharma used his trademark wit to address a dark chapter from his recent past. While on stage with Netflix India CEO Monika Shergill, Kapil delivered a cheeky jibe at the various gangster groups that have reportedly targeted him over the last year.

The Banter: “Gangster Bhi Lage Hue Hai”

The exchange began when Monika Shergill praised Kapil’s long-standing association with the streaming platform.

Monika Shergill: “Hamari nazar, India ki nazar toh bahut time se aap par hai, Kapil. Hopefully, 11 mulko ki police ki nazar nahi hone chahiye.” (Our eyes and India’s eyes have been on you for a long time. Hopefully, the police of 11 countries aren’t watching you.)

Kapil Sharma: “Ek do mulkon ke gangster bhi lage hue hain aaj kal.” (Gangsters from one or two countries are also following me these days.)

Kapil immediately realized the sensitivity of the remark and jokingly asked the media to “cut it out,” only to be reminded that the event was being broadcast live.

Background: The Attacks on “Kap’s Café”

The joke refers to a series of violent incidents involving Kapil’s business venture in Surrey, Canada. In 2025, Kapil and his wife, Ginni Chatrath, opened Kap’s Café, which became a target for extortion and intimidation:

  • Frequency: The café was targeted three times in four months (July, August, and October 2025).
  • The Perpetrators: Associates of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, specifically Goldy Dhillon and Kuldeep Sidhu, claimed responsibility for the shootings. They posted warnings on social media, suggesting the attacks were a consequence of Kapil’s close association with Salman Khan.
  • Other Groups: Another operative, Harjit Singh Laddi of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), also claimed responsibility for one of the incidents, citing Kapil’s past jokes about Nihang Sikhs.
  • The Fallout: While no injuries were reported, the property suffered significant damage. In November 2025, Delhi Police arrested Bandhu Maan Singh Sekhon, a key conspirator who provided logistical support for the August firing.

Upcoming Projects

Despite the security concerns, Kapil’s career remains on an upswing. During the event, Netflix confirmed that The Great Indian Kapil Show has been renewed for a fifth season, set to air later in 2026. Kapil is also slated to star in the film Dadi Ki Shaadi and was recently seen in Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2.
