Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday expressed his condolences following the death of Mangal Munda, the great-grandson of the revered tribal leader Birsa Munda, who passed away on the night of November 28 at a Ranchi hospital.
In a post on social media platform X, Soren wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of Shri Mangal Munda ji, a descendant of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, who was undergoing treatment at RIMS. May Marang Buru grant peace to the departed soul and provide strength to the grieving family during this difficult time.”
Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar also conveyed his condolences via X. “The news of the demise of Mangal Munda, a descendant of Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda, is extremely sad. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. May God grant them strength to bear this sorrow. Om Shanti!” his post read.
Rajiv Ranjan from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi shared details of Munda’s accident and treatment. “Mangal Munda met with a road accident on November 25 and was admitted to RIMS with head injuries, including brain trauma. Despite immediate surgery and intensive care, he remained in critical condition. Unfortunately, he passed away on Thursday night. A post-mortem will also be conducted,” Ranjan said.
Birsa Munda, a legendary figure who led the Ulgulan (revolt) against British colonial rule, is widely regarded as a symbol of tribal resistance. His leadership continues to inspire and resonate with communities across India.
