Priyanka Gandhi Vadra To Take Oath As Wayanad MP In Lok Sabha

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is set to take oath as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, representing the Wayanad constituency.

Priyanka Gandhi secured the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by defeating Sathyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India (CPI) with a significant margin of 4,10,931 votes. The seat, a Congress stronghold, witnessed a triangular contest between Priyanka Gandhi, BJP’s Navya Haridas, and CPI’s Sathyan Mokeri.

In addition to Priyanka Gandhi, Congress leader Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan will also be sworn in as a Member of Parliament. Chavan won the Nanded Lok Sabha by-election with 5,86,788 votes, following the demise of the sitting Congress MP, Vasantrao Balwantrao Chavan.

Meanwhile, Union ministers Suresh Gopi (Petroleum and Natural Gas) and Tokhan Sahu (Housing and Urban Affairs) are scheduled to lay official papers on the table in the Lok Sabha today.

On Wednesday, Priyanka Gandhi expressed her happiness upon receiving her election certificate, describing it as a “symbol of love, trust, and shared values.” She took to social media platform X to thank the voters:
“My colleagues from Wayanad brought my certificate of election today. For me, it is not just a document; it is a symbol of your love, trust, and the values we are committed to. Thank you, Wayanad, for choosing me to take forward this journey to build a better future for yourselves,” she wrote.

Priyanka Gandhi also shared her gratitude after her victory on November 23:
“I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the trust you have placed in me. I will make sure that over time, you truly feel this victory has been your victory and that the person you chose to represent you understands your hopes and dreams and fights for you as one of your own. I look forward to being your voice in Parliament!”

The Wayanad seat was previously held by her brother Rahul Gandhi, who shifted to represent Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh in this year’s general elections.

The by-elections in Wayanad and Nanded were part of a larger electoral exercise covering 48 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats across 15 states, with Priyanka Gandhi marking her electoral debut in Wayanad
