BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma strongly condemned the recent violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, pledging that those responsible for stone pelting and targeting police vehicles will face strict action.
“Deliberately inciting a riot, targeting the police vehicles, open firing, pelting stones—these kinds of things won’t be accepted in Uttar Pradesh. People who are behind these incidents will not be spared… The situation in Sambhal is very peaceful. Politicians should also refrain from giving provocative statements,” Dinesh Sharma said while addressing the media.
Amid the unrest, senior advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain alleged he has been receiving threats due to misinformation spread about his involvement in the incident. He accused Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, SP MP Zia Ur Rahman Barq, and others of falsely implicating him in the violence.
“Akhilesh Yadav, Owaisi, Samajwadi Party’s MP of Sambhal, media cell of SP, secretary of Gyanvyapi Mosque committee—all these people have spread misinformation that I went there with a mob raising the slogan of Jai Shree Ram, and that caused the riots there. It’s a false allegation… I went there with the administration and all the concerned officials and people,” Jain clarified.
The advocate emphasized that he did not raise any slogans and was escorted by the police following the completion of a survey in the area.
Meanwhile, Moradabad Divisional Commissioner Aunjaneya Kumar Singh confirmed the involvement of three minors in the violence, which erupted over an ASI survey at a Mughal-era mosque.
Security personnel remained deployed in Sambhal for the third consecutive day to maintain peace. Authorities have arrested 27 individuals, including 25 men and two women, in connection with the violence. Seven FIRs have been registered so far, police reported.
