New Delhi [India]: The Mahayuti alliance, following its landslide victory in the Maharashtra assembly elections, faces a leadership challenge as the Chief Minister’s post remains undecided. Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole hinted at significant reasons behind the delay in announcing the CM candidate.
“Maharashtra’s caretaker CM and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde can’t comprehend what BJP leadership is… There is a big reason behind the delay in announcing the CM face,” Patole told media.
Unresolved Leadership Crisis
The election results, declared on November 23, gave the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance a decisive mandate. However, the alliance has yet to finalise its Chief Minister, sparking questions from opposition leaders and internal factions.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized the delay, suggesting it reflected power struggles within the alliance.
“If Devendra Fadnavis’ name has been finalised, then announce it quickly. What is stopping you? Why are you depriving the people of Maharashtra of the promises made to them? They are so power-hungry… It has been days since the election results were announced, yet there is no clarity,” Chaturvedi said.
Eknath Shinde’s Stand
Caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated he would accept any decision made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the Chief Minister’s post.
“I have told the Prime Minister that if there is any issue in forming the government in Maharashtra because of me, then do not hesitate, and whatever decision you take, I will accept it,” Shinde said at a press conference in Mumbai.
He assured that whoever is elected as Chief Minister by the alliance will have the full support of Shiv Sainiks.
Fadnavis in New Delhi
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis traveled to New Delhi on Wednesday, where he is expected to meet BJP top leadership to resolve the impasse over the CM’s selection.
The delay in finalizing the leadership has drawn criticism from opposition leaders and highlighted internal complexities within the Mahayuti alliance as it prepares to assume power in Maharashtra.
