Fans Mourn Prashant Tamang as Video of One of His Final Performances Resurfaces

Actor and singer Prashant Tamang, winner of Indian Idol 3 and known for his role in Paatal Lok 2, passed away at the age of 43 on Sunday following a cardiac arrest at his residence in New Delhi. News of his untimely death left fans and colleagues in shock, with tributes pouring in across social media.

A video of one of his last performances, held at Club Yak and Yeti Everest in Dubai on December 27, 2025, has resurfaced, allowing fans to relive his stage presence and musical talent. The venue had promoted the event as “an electrifying performance, amazing vibes, and a night to remember,” and shared clips of the performance after the show, describing it as “full of excitement, a powerful crowd, and unbeatable vibes.” Fans quickly flocked to the video to express their grief and condolences. Comments ranged from “He was such a humble human being and a good singer” to “Rest in power sir. You’re going to be missed so much.” Some fans even revisited his Indian Idol performances, sharing fond memories and heartfelt messages.

Prashant’s death comes just days after his 43rd birthday on January 4. His friend Mahesh Sewa told PTI that Prashant passed away around 9 AM in Janak Puri, Delhi. “He was taken to the hospital by his family, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival. I spoke to him a few days ago, and he was hale and hearty,” Sewa added. The family has yet to decide whether the funeral will be held in Delhi or Darjeeling.

Born in 1983 in Darjeeling to a Nepali-speaking Gorkha family, Prashant initially served as a constable in the Kolkata police before pursuing music. He gained nationwide recognition after winning Indian Idol in 2007 at the age of 24.

Besides his singing career, Prashant acted in several Nepali films including Gorkha Paltan, Angalo Yo Maya Ko, and Pardesi. He recently appeared on screen in Paatal Lok 2 as Daniel Lecho, an assassin, and will be seen posthumously in Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan, set to release on April 17.

Prashant is survived by his wife, Geeta Thapa (née Martha Alley), and their four-year-old daughter, Ariah Tamang. Fans continue to celebrate his legacy, remembering him for his soulful voice, humble nature, and enduring contributions to music and cinema.
