Actor Anil Kapoor is set to return to one of his most iconic roles as he not only produces but also stars in Nayak 2, the sequel to the 2001 hit Nayak: The Real Hero. The development has been confirmed exclusively by producer Deepak Mukut, who will be co-producing the film alongside Anil Kapoor.
Nayak: The Real Hero left a lasting impact on audiences with its story of Shivaji Rao, a television journalist who challenges corruption and unexpectedly becomes the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a day. The film, directed by Shankar, went on to gain cult status over the years.
Confirming reports that Anil Kapoor has acquired the rights to the film, Deepak Mukut clarified that the sequel will be a joint production. “He and I are making the film together. It is too early to say anything about it since several discussions are going on,” Mukut told HT City. He further added, “Yes, the sequel is in the works and we are producing the film together.”
When asked whether Anil Kapoor will reprise his role on screen, Mukut responded without hesitation, saying, “Of course he will!”
While details about the production timeline and cast are still under wraps, industry buzz suggests that Anil Kapoor is deeply invested in the project. According to reports, the actor believes the theme of Nayak remains highly relevant and has strong potential for a powerful sequel.
The original film featured an ensemble cast including Rani Mukerji, Amrish Puri, Paresh Rawal, Saurabh Shukla, Johnny Lever, Shivaji Satam, and Neena Kulkarni. Nayak was the Hindi remake of Shankar’s Tamil blockbuster Mudhalvan (1999).
