The announcement followed a meeting between Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia and Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Starlink Business Operations, in New Delhi. Scindia described the discussion as an important move toward advancing satellite-powered last-mile connectivity across India.
Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, the minister said that satellite-based internet will play a crucial role in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a digitally empowered India.
“It will help extend connectivity to the most remote parts of the country and strengthen internet access for every citizen in rural and hard-to-reach regions, ensuring that digital inclusion accelerates broader development,” Scindia said.
Starlink, operated by SpaceX, is one of the world’s most advanced satellite internet networks, known for delivering high-speed, low-latency broadband to remote and underserved locations worldwide. Its entry into India is expected to boost the country’s connectivity infrastructure, especially in areas where traditional broadband services remain limited.
