Patna, [November 20, 2025] – Nitish Kumar has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for an unprecedented 10th time, marking the formation of a new government led by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The grand ceremony, which included the swearing-in of a total of 18 ministers, including two Deputy Chief Ministers, was held today at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, beginning around 11:30 am.
🤝 NDA’s Victory and New Government Formation
The new government follows a decisive victory for the NDA in the recently concluded Bihar elections, where the alliance—spearheaded by the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—secured a sweeping majority, winning 202 out of the 243 Assembly seats. The BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats, followed by the JD(U) with 85. Other alliance partners included the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (19), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (5), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (4).
Kumar, 75, officially resigned as Chief Minister on Wednesday before staking claim to form the next government. He submitted a letter of support from all NDA partners to Governor Arif Mohammed Khan after being elected as the leader of both the JD(U) and the NDA in the state.
💼 Council of Ministers and Key Appointments
A total of 18 leaders were sworn in as ministers, signaling a strong coalition cabinet. The BJP has named Samrat Choudhury and Vijay Kumar Sinha as its legislature party leader and deputy leader, respectively, confirming their roles as the two Deputy Chief Ministers in the new government.
NDA leaders were engaged in discussions late on Wednesday to finalize the allocation of ministerial positions and portfolios among the alliance partners. The crucial post of the Assembly Speaker was also reportedly a part of these deliberations. The final list of ministers was expected to be submitted to the Governor earlier today.
🌟 Dignitaries Grace the Occasion
The high-profile swearing-in ceremony was a significant political event, attended by a host of national dignitaries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present, alongside Union Ministers Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Rajnath Singh, and Dharmendra Pradhan. Chief Ministers from at least seven other states also graced the occasion.
Kumar’s tenth swearing-in highlights his central role in Bihar’s political landscape, a career marked by several alliances and government formations while consistently holding the Chief Minister’s position.
