DNA Confirms Dr. Umar Un Nabi As Driver In Red Fort Terror Blast

The Delhi Police confirmed on Thursday that a DNA test has positively identified Dr. Umar Un Nabi as the man who was behind the wheel of the Hyundai i20 car that exploded near the Red Fort on Monday (November 10). The blast killed at least 10 people and injured more than 20.

Confirmation and Terror Incident Status

The confirmation came from DNA samples collected from the blast site that were matched with those of Dr. Umar Un Nabi’s mother. Investigators reportedly found Dr. Umar’s leg trapped between the steering wheel and the accelerator after the powerful explosion.

  • Official Stance: The confirmation follows the Central government’s declaration on Wednesday that the Red Fort explosion was a “heinous terror incident” perpetrated by “anti-national” forces.
  • High-Level Review: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security and held separate discussions with Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval to review the ongoing investigation.

Faridabad Terror Module Connection

The police probe, which has involved a manhunt spanning four states, has tightly linked the blast to an extremist module operating from Faridabad and allegedly connected to the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

The investigation has established a chain of connected developments:

  • JeM Posters: The appearance of JeM posters in Nowgam, Kashmir, on October 18.
  • Explosives Seizure: The seizure of nearly 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate, along with other explosive materials and firearms, in Faridabad earlier this week.
  • Network Affiliation: The core network is associated with Al-Falah University in Haryana, where Dr. Umar Un Nabi and another arrested doctor, Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie, previously worked.

Arrests Made in the Module

Investigators have made multiple arrests in connection with the module:

  • Three Doctors: Adeel Rather (from Saharanpur), Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie (from Faridabad), and Shaheen Shahid (from Lucknow).
  • Other Associates: Parvez Saeed Ansari (Shaheen Shahid’s brother), Irfan Ahmad Waghay (a maulvi from Shopian), and Hafeez Mohammad Ishtiyaq (an imam from Mewat’s Al-Falah Mosque, from whose residence explosives were recovered).

Security agencies are continuing their search for any remaining members of the terror module.
