YouTube Hit By Widespread Outage; Users Rush To X (Twitter) Sith Memes And Confusion

Recently, YouTube, a popular site for streaming videos and music, went down for a long time. Thousands of people around the world said they couldn’t get to the site. As is common during significant outages, people soon went to X (previously Twitter) to vent their anger, get confirmation, and, of course, share a ton of funny memes.

DownDetector, a service that keeps track of problems, said that more than 4,000 people complained about the outages, which affected both the online and mobile apps.

The Meme Tsunami and the Confusion on Social Media

The sudden delay turned X into a digital meeting place right once, as people acknowledged the outage and joked about how they felt at first:

A user on X wrote, “Everyone is rushing to Twitter to check if YouTube is down for everyone else,” which perfectly sums up how X is the “Are you having this problem too?” service.

Someone more perfectly summed up the confusion of self-troubleshooting by posting a meme with the caption, “I restarted my phone thinking that st was tweaking just to find out YouTube is down**.”

A third person said, “People coming to X to realize YouTube is down and it’s not their Wi-Fi,” which suggests that a lot of people blamed their own internet connection too soon.

YouTube Support Fixes Problem with Mobile App Crashing

The YouTube support team was busy on X, answering user complaints. They first admitted that there was a problem, saying, “Some of you have told us that the YouTube app is crashing on your phones.” This problem could affect anyone who use Android or iOS. The team talked about the usual problems customers were having, such the app closing or not responding when clicked.

Before the permanent patch was released, the support team offered some common troubleshooting “hacks” and told customers to “delete and reinstall [the app], and don’t forget to restart your device in between!” I hope that works for you. If not, please let us know!

The support staff stated in a later blog post that the problem that was making the app crash on mobile had been fixed. They told users who were still having troubles, especially on iOS devices, to “please reinstall the app.”

The platform didn’t say right away what caused the broad outage, but the event did lead to hypotheses about probable underlying problems, such as a likely DDOS attack. However, these theories have not been validated.
