RSS Chief Highlights Maharshi Valmiki’s Legacy On Ramayana At Jayanti Celebration In Nagpur

Nagpur: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday praised Maharshi Valmiki for writing the Ramayana to alleviate the sorrow of the world, stressing that Indians have a duty to carry forward this culture and tradition.

Speaking at the Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti celebration organized by the Valmiki Samaj Seva Mandal, Bhagwat highlighted that while Lord Ram has always existed, it was Valmiki who brought his story into every household.

A release by the RSS publicity wing, Vishva Samvad Kendra, quoted Bhagwat saying, “It is he who brought Lord Ram into our lives. He wrote the Ramayana and shared it with the people because his heart was filled with compassion and a sense of belonging to all. He did this so that the sorrow of the world may be removed.”

Bhagwat elaborated on the timeless lessons of the epic, noting that the Ramayana provides guidance on family relationships, ideal conduct for servants and ministers, and moral virtues exemplified by Lord Ram and his devoted follower, Lord Hanuman. He cited characters like Vibhishana and Sugriva as examples of devotion.

“For every type of person in life, Valmiki’s Ramayana provides guidance on conduct. He didn’t merely narrate a story; he gave us an eternal message for life,” Bhagwat said.

He added that India’s legacy of spirituality, goodwill, and ethical conduct has its roots in the Ramkatha, the story of Lord Ram, which inspires compassion and goodwill towards the entire world.

Citing historical estimates, Bhagwat mentioned that the period of the Ramayana was around 8,000 years ago, emphasizing that a dream envisioned millennia ago can still be realized today through persistence, hard work, and continuous effort.

“It is our responsibility towards humanity. Because we are Indians, it is our culture and our tradition, and carrying it forward is our responsibility,” he concluded.
