Trump Hints at “Greatness in the Middle East” Amid Reports of a 21-Point Gaza Peace Plan

President Donald Trump has hinted at a major diplomatic breakthrough, suggesting a chance for “GREATNESS IN THE MIDDLE EAST” as reports circulate about a comprehensive 21-point plan proposed by the United States to end the two-year-long war between Israel and Hamas.

On Sunday, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to post: “We have a real chance for GREATNESS IN THE MIDDLE EAST. ALL ARE ON BOARD FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL, FIRST TIME EVER. WE WILL GET IT DONE!!! President DJT.”

While it remains unclear what “greatness” the Republican leader was specifically referring to, his statement comes amid intense international pressure on both Israel and the US to halt the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023. According to the Gaza health ministry, the Israeli bombardment has resulted in the deaths of over 66,000 Palestinians since October 2023, leaving a trail of destruction and displacing approximately 90% of the population.

Key Details of the Proposed US Peace Plan

The US administration, reportedly led by Donald Trump, has proposed a detailed 21-point plan to end the war. Key components of this roadmap, which was reportedly shared with Arab and Muslim countries on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly last week, include:

  • Hostage Release: The plan calls for the release of all hostages currently held by Hamas to occur within 48 hours of the agreement taking effect.
  • Post-War Gaza Roadmap: It establishes a framework for the governance and rebuilding of Gaza, a territory grappling with a catastrophic humanitarian crisis.
  • No Role for Hamas: Crucially, the plan reportedly ensures that Hamas will have no part in the future government of Gaza.
  • Palestinian State Recognition: The plan outlines the recognition of a Palestinian state and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.

Netanyahu Strongly Rejects Palestinian Statehood

The proposed plan’s clause concerning Palestinian statehood is likely to face significant opposition from Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been vocally defiant on this issue, stating that he strongly refutes the formation of a Palestinian state.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly this week, Netanyahu articulated his position, saying, “Giving the Palestinians a state one mile from Jerusalem after October 7 is like giving al-Qaeda a state one mile from New York City after September 11.” Notably, members of the US delegation—Israel’s closest ally and largest military supporter—were seen applauding his statement.

Trump, for his part, has previously mentioned the conflict in starkly pragmatic terms, referring to Gaza as a “real estate project,” while simultaneously promising to bring the two-year-long war to an end. The recent push for a comprehensive plan comes as peace talks between Israel and Hamas have stalled following Israeli strikes on Doha earlier this month.
