Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI and a prominent player in the AI revolution, has named a few jobs that he thinks are most likely to be taken over by AI-powered systems. Altman talked about the ongoing changes in the global workplace on The Tucker Carlson Show.
Altman said he is “confident” that a lot of customer service jobs would be among the first to go. He remarked, “A lot of customer support that happens over the phone or computer will go away, and an AI will do a better job.” He also said that AI systems would be more efficient, but there will still be times when people need to be there to make decisions or check things themselves.
Altman then talked on the future of computer programmers, a job he is “way less sure about.” He didn’t say that AI would completely take over the work, but he did point out how much it has already changed. “Being a computer programmer now means something substantially different than it did two years ago. He said, “You can be a lot more productive with these AI tools.”
Altman called the change a “punctuated equilibria moment,” saying that a lot of employment will be affected in a short amount of time as companies rely more on AI.
