Assam’s Zubeen Garg Dies at 52 in Singapore

Renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, famous for his hit song “Ya Ali,” has passed away at the age of 52 in Singapore. According to reports, the singer suffered a heart attack while scuba diving on Friday, a day before he was scheduled to perform at a Northeast cultural festival.

Garg was on a cruise with friends when the incident occurred. He was immediately rushed to a hospital but reportedly succumbed to a heart attack, passing away at 1:10 pm IST.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his grief, stating, “I just got a call from union minister of state for external affairs Pabitra Margherita, who confirmed the sad news. There are no words to describe the loss. We have lost a priceless treasure.” The Chief Minister added that the state government would soon decide on a fitting farewell for the singer.

Garg was set to perform with his band on Saturday at the Northeast festival, which is scheduled to run from September 19 to 21. His sudden death has left his fans and the music industry in shock.
