Assam Doctor Served Show-Cause Notice After Performing 21 C-Section Deliveries In 10 Hours

Guwahati, Assam — The district health administration has sent a show-cause notice to a senior gynecologist at a government hospital in Assam’s Morigaon district after she performed an incredible 21 C-section deliveries in just 10 hours. The notification was sent out after complaints that the rules for sterilization and patient safety were not being followed.

The assistant district commissioner (health) of Morigaon sent the notification to Dr. Kantheswar Bordoloi, a medical and health professional. The order had to do with the lower segment cesarean section (LSCS) surgeries he did on September 5 in the hospital’s main operating room.

The Morigaon district administration’s official letter pointed out the huge number of procedures that were done in a short amount of time. The letter said, “Dr. Bordoloi did 21 emergency LSCS operations at the Major Operating Theatre of STHG Civil Hospital, Morigaon, between 3:40 pm on September 5 and 1:50 am on September 6.”

The administration’s warning listed “a few serious concerns” about the long surgery session and told the doctor to provide a full report for each of the 21 cases. The report needs to include a lot of information, like how the case was prepared and how well the sterilizing rules were followed, to make sure that patient safety wasn’t put at risk.

Dr. Bordoloi defended himself by saying that he is very skilled and can do several surgeries in a short amount of time. Health officials are worried that the moms and their newborns may not have been appropriately cared for because there were so many surgeries. The main question of the study is whether the hospital’s rules were strictly followed during this strange string of surgeries.

The district health authority is waiting for Dr. Bordoloi’s full report to find out whether there were any mistakes and what steps need to be taken to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
