SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir were hit by a succession of unfortunate events on Saturday. Heavy rain caused cloudbursts and landslides, which killed several people. A landslide caused a family’s house in the Reasi district to fall down, killing all seven of them in the early hours of the morning.
Waqar Yunus, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer for Reasi’s Mahore, said that a cloudburst at about 3 a.m. caused the landslide. Rescue teams were able to get to the bodies of the whole family after they had been trapped under the rubble of their home for three to four hours.
In a different but related event, a cloudburst in the Rajgad area of Ramban district caused a flash flood that killed three persons and left two others missing. Around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, the event took place. Rescue teams are looking for the people who are missing right now.
These new tragedies add to the long list of those who have died and damage that has been done by bad weather in the area. Over the past several weeks, Jammu and Kashmir has been hit by a number of natural disasters, such as landslides and flash floods. These have made living difficult and caused an unprecedented amount of death and damage.
