Amid fresh reports about a potential divorce between veteran Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja, their representatives have stepped forward to dismiss the speculation. Both the actor’s manager and lawyer have stated that the news is not new and that the couple is not separating.
The renewed chatter was sparked by a news report claiming that Sunita had filed for divorce on December 5, 2024, in the Bandra Family Court. The report cited “adultery, cruelty, and desertion” as the reasons for the petition.
However, Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, told the media, “This is the same old news which came out six-seven months ago. Sunita had filed a divorce petition six-seven months ago, now everything is getting settled. In a week or so everyone will hear the news.” He also added that the entire family is preparing to celebrate the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival together.
Echoing this sentiment, Govinda’s lawyer, Lalit Bindal, also dismissed the report, simply calling it “old news.” The couple themselves have been unavailable for comment.
This is not the first time that the 38-year-long marriage of Govinda and Sunita has been the subject of public speculation. Similar rumors circulated in February of this year, at which time Bindal confirmed that a divorce petition had been filed, citing “misunderstandings.” At the time, the actor’s manager downplayed the situation, attributing it to differences of opinion on film projects.
Meanwhile, Sunita had given interviews hinting at marital discord, famously stating she wouldn’t want to marry him again in her next life. Govinda, on his part, has consistently avoided direct comment on the matter.
Married since 1987, the couple has two children, Tina and Yashvardhan. Govinda, a prominent star of the 1990s, last appeared in the 2019 film Rangeela Raja and has been involved in politics since joining the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena in 2024.
