Woman Alleges Husband Body Shamed Her, Demanded She Look Like Nora Fatehi; FIR Filed

MURADNAGAR, UTTAR PRADESH – A terrible example of domestic violence has come to light in Muradnagar, Uttar Pradesh. A newlywed woman has filed a police complaint against her husband and in-laws for claimed dowry harassment, body-shaming, and even forcing her to get an abortion.

Media says that the 26-year-old woman, who married a 28-year-old physical education teacher in March of this year, says her husband was “obsessed” with Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi. She said that he would always make fun of how she looked and try to get her to work out at a gym for three hours every day to get a body like his. If she didn’t do as he said, he would allegedly stop her from eating so she wouldn’t gain weight. The woman said that her husband would tell her that his life was “ruined” since he might have married someone who looked like Fatehi.

The woman further said that even though her family spent about ₹75 lakh on the wedding and gave her husband a Mahindra Scorpio, cash, and jewellery, they kept bothering her for more dowry.

There is also a scary claim in the complaint that someone was compelled to get an abortion. The woman added that two months ago, after she told her mother-in-law that she was pregnant, her husband gave her a tablet that he believed would help her. After looking into it, she found that it was an abortion pill, and she later had a miscarriage. Her condition got worse, and she had to go to the hospital. After she got out of the hospital, she said that her in-laws wouldn’t let her go back to their house.

Dhawal Jaiswal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, said that a FIR has been filed against the husband and his parents. The authorities are currently looking into the charges, which include dowry harassment, intentional humiliation, and abortion. This example shows that domestic violence can take many forms, such as emotional and psychological abuse, bodily assault, and financial exploitation.
