The Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) did a recent study that showed Gujarat will still be India’s top exporting state in the 2024-25 financial year. The value of the state’s exports was ₹9.83 lakh crore, which is a huge 26.6% of the country’s total exports.
Gujarat’s exports are around ₹4.3 lakh crore higher than those of Maharashtra, which came in second with shipments of ₹5,57,271 crore. This puts Gujarat considerably ahead of its competition. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana were next in line for exports after Maharashtra.
The FIEO study showed that Jamnagar was the most important district for Gujarat’s success. Jamnagar’s exports alone were worth ₹3.63 lakh crore, which is more than one-third of the state’s total. This is mostly because it has strong exports of oil and refineries. The state exports a wide range of goods, with the top five being petroleum products, gems and jewelry, organic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and engineering goods (machinery).
The study also talked about how Uttar Pradesh did, which made ₹1.86 lakh crore of India’s total exports of ₹37.02 lakh crore, giving it a 5% share of the national total. FIEO said that Uttar Pradesh has done a “commendable job” of diversifying its export markets, reaching both traditional and new economies around the world. The state still sends the most goods to the United States.
Gujarat’s excellent export performance, led by key districts and a wide range of goods, makes it a major economic powerhouse for India’s worldwide trade, even though it fell a little from the previous year.
