Puerto Rico’s San Juan Eleonora Boi: The pregnant wife of former NBA star Danilo Gallinari, told a scary story on Friday, August 1, 2025, about how a shark attacked her as she was swimming in Puerto Rico. Boi uploaded a picture on Instagram from her hospital bed, making a funny face for the camera while talking about the horrific event. She was quickly taken to the hospital and had surgery to fix a cut on her leg.
“I never thought a shark could bite me. I was on a very crowded beach along the shore. Boi wrote in her Instagram post (translated from Italian), “Thank God my baby and I are okay.” “I was rushed to the hospital, and the surgery to fix my badly bruised leg went well.” Now I just have to get over the big shock. . . . Reports say that she hurt her thigh.
Boi, who is pregnant with her third child with Gallinari, also made the mood lighter by joking that the shark will be hearing from her lawyer. She thanked her spouse for being “brave” amid the awful ordeal. They already have a four-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son.
An investigation is going on for a rare event.
Nilda Jiménez, a scientist with Puerto Rico’s Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, told El Nuevo Día that officials are working hard to find out what kind of shark bit the person. Jiménez told E! News, “Based on the pictures we were given, we think the bite’s features could be similar to those of a shark.” She went on to say that “a series of analyses would be necessary to validate this.” To do this, medical staff were asked for samples, which would be analyzed right away if they were accessible.
People think that shark attacks in Puerto Rico are very infrequent. Historically, statistics indicate less than 20 shark attacks in Puerto Rican waters during the last century, beginning in 1900. Only 10 of these were considered unprovoked. Also, just four of the known attacks led to deaths. Puerto Rico had one shark attack every year on average. The latest shark attack in Puerto Rico that wasn’t provoked and didn’t kill anyone was in 2011 off the coast of Vieques. Most shark species naturally favor deeper waters, are cautious near people, and there is a lot of natural prey in the area, which is why the occurrence rate is so low.
Danilo Gallinari’s Respected NBA Career
Danilo Gallinari, 36, had a great career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) before moving to Puerto Rico to play for the Vaqueros de Bayamón in 2025.
The New York Knicks picked him sixth overall in the 2008 NBA Draft. Before that, he had played professionally in Italy.
During his time with the Knicks, Gallinari played in 157 games.
In 2011, he was moved to the Denver Nuggets in a big deal that got a lot of attention.
He played for seven different teams in the NBA and played 777 regular-season games before retiring in 2024. He averaged 14.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game throughout the course of his career.
The quick medical reaction and good news for Boi and her baby had made things better after a very scary meeting.
