PATNA, Bihar – On Monday, July 28, 2025, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Bhai Virendra, a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), at the SC/ST police station in Patna. Sandip Kumar, an official from the Panchayati Raj Department, made the complaint. He said that a well-known opposition politician had used abusive language and made threats over the phone.
Kumar, who is the panchayat secretary of Maner, which is also Bhai Virendra’s assembly constituency, told reporters about the intense argument. “The MLA got angry when I didn’t know his name and said he would beat me with shoes. “I told him he should move me instead of acting badly, but he said I would have a worse fate,” Kumar recalled.
Bhai Virendra is said to have asked for a death certificate for a family member of one of his supporters quickly, which led to the incident. A recording of the supposed conversation between Kumar and Bhai Virendra has subsequently gone popular on social media, backing up the official’s story of the argument.
Kumar said that he told his bosses about the situation, including the block development officer, and then he filed a police report on their instructions.
Bhai Virendra could not be reached for comment on the charges as of Monday evening. Police officers confirmed that they are investigating the situation.
The incident has swiftly got political repercussions, and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has used it to attack the RJD. Neeraj Kumar, a spokesperson for the state BJP, said that the event showed that the RJD was a party that supported breaking the law. He told the people to “make sure that it doesn’t win the next assembly elections.”
Prashant Kishor, a well-known political strategist and the head of the Jan Suraaj Party, also spoke out about the issue. When queried about the event, Kishor said, “The RJD believes in the culture of ‘katta’ (unlicensed gun). They were that way when they were in charge. The episode with Bhai Virendra shows that they can’t be fixed.
The viral audiotape and the FIR that followed are likely to spark more political debate in Bihar, especially with the assembly elections coming up.
