Hollywood star praises Cruise’s rise and recalls early days of their relationship
Washington DC, July 20 — Actress Rebecca De Mornay opened up about her past relationship with Tom Cruise, reflecting on their time working together on the 1983 film Risky Business and the bond they shared in its aftermath. In a conversation with People, the 65-year-old actress spoke warmly of Cruise, whom she dated for over two years in the 1980s.
“I’m really proud of him,” De Mornay said, describing Cruise as a “major chord” in contrast to her being a “minor” chord. The actress praised Cruise’s awareness of cultural trends, saying, “He is a brilliant, brilliant interpreter of what the zeitgeist is.”
De Mornay shared that their connection began while filming Risky Business in suburban Chicago. “We started this together, and look what he did with it,” she added, acknowledging Cruise’s meteoric rise after the film.
Tom Cruise went on to become a global icon, cementing his legacy with blockbuster hits such as Top Gun (1986) and his long-running Mission: Impossible franchise, which concludes with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in 2025.
De Mornay, known for her versatile roles, is currently starring in the psychological thriller Saint Claire, alongside Bella Thorne, Ryan Phillippe, and Frank Whaley, now playing in select theatres.
