Ajmer (Rajasthan), July 18: Continuous heavy rainfall since early Thursday morning has caused severe waterlogging across Ajmer, with rainwater entering the government-run Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, creating concerns over public safety and healthcare operations.
A local visitor confirmed the extent of the flooding, stating, “It has been raining since 5 AM. Rainwater has entered many parts of the hospital.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for both East and West Rajasthan, warning of “extremely heavy rainfall” across the region. In Ajmer, 79 mm of rainfall is expected today, with temperatures ranging between 22.5°C to 29°C.
Civic Authorities Mobilized
Responding to the flooding, Ajmer Municipal Corporation Health Officer Prithviraj Singh urged residents to stay indoors and avoid flood-prone areas.
“All citizens are advised to remain at home. Areas like Brahampuri, Sunheri Colony, Aam Ka Talab, and New Govind Nagar are particularly vulnerable,” he said.
Singh added that the municipal teams—including engineers, sanitation, and healthcare workers—are stationed in areas known for chronic waterlogging. Control rooms are monitoring the situation, and necessary interventions like soil cutting and valve repairs are underway.
“Wherever there’s water stagnation or infrastructure failure, we are acting immediately,” he added.
Weather System Movement
According to IMD, the depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh and southwest Uttar Pradesh is moving west-northwest at 17 km/h. It is expected to move across northwest Madhya Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan in the next 24 hours, further aggravating the rainfall situation in Ajmer and surrounding districts.
Public Advisory
Authorities have issued a clear advisory urging:
- Residents to stay home unless absolutely necessary
- Avoid known flood-prone areas
- Follow updates from local control rooms and weather departments
As heavy rains continue to batter the region, emergency services remain on high alert.
