Patna (Bihar), July 13: Amid rising opposition attacks over Bihar’s deteriorating law and order, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday asserted that there is “no organised crime” in the state. He, however, admitted that it is difficult for the government to prevent murders stemming from personal disputes.
“There is good governance in Bihar, there is no organised crime,” Choudhary told ANI. “If a murder occurs due to a personal dispute, it is a bit difficult for the government to stop it. But no organised crime will be allowed to take place in Bihar,” he added.
His remarks came in response to criticism from RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, who slammed the NDA government after BJP leader and businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead outside his Patna residence. “A BJP leader shot dead in Patna! What to say, and to whom? Is there anyone in the NDA government willing to listen to the truth or admit their mistakes?” Yadav questioned in a post on X.
He further attacked the state’s two Deputy CMs, sarcastically asking, “What are the two useless BJP deputy chief ministers doing? No statement from the corrupt Bhunja-DK party?”
Khemka had earlier requested police protection for his family. His murder has sparked fresh concerns over public safety in Bihar.
Soon after, another man, Vikram Jha, was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in Patna’s Ram Krishna Nagar area. Originally from Darbhanga, Jha had been running a grocery store and lived with his family in the same building. A murder case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, in Vaishali district, a woman’s body was found in Pirapur under Goraul police station limits. SP Lalit Mohan Sharma confirmed that the woman’s mother had attempted to file a missing person complaint, but both Bhagwanpur and Goraul police stations failed to register it.
“As a result, Bhagwanpur SHO has faced disciplinary action, and Goraul SHO has been suspended. The accused has been identified and will be arrested soon,” Sharma said.
