The first Kantara, written and directed by Shetty, was a surprise pan-India hit in 2022, lauded for its unique storytelling and cultural depth. It earned Shetty the prestigious National Award for Best Actor, and the film also won Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Reflecting on the National Award win, Shetty credited his team, saying, “This has been possible because of my entire team. I am just the face of the film; it is all because of their hard work.” He also expressed gratitude to the people of Karnataka, dedicating the award to them.
Set in the fictional Dakshina Kannada village, the original Kantara depicted the story of a Kambala champion’s clash with an upright forest officer, blending folklore, action, and socio-political commentary.
With Kantara: Chapter 1 promising to explore the legend’s origins, expectations are sky-high for the film’s October release.
