Los Angeles [US], June 24 : Actor Xavier Molyneux is set to take the lead role in Bloodaxe, an upcoming Viking-themed historical drama from Prime Video. The series, created by renowned screenwriter Michael Hirst and his son Horatio Hirst, will delve into the dramatic life of Viking warrior Erik Bloodaxe.
Michael Hirst, known for the globally acclaimed Vikings and its sequel Vikings: Valhalla, returns to the Viking world with this new saga. Bloodaxe marks Horatio Hirst’s debut as a writer. He also appeared as Bishop Grimketel in Vikings: Valhalla and played Charlie Bowdre in Billy the Kid on MGM+.
According to Variety, the story will follow Erik Bloodaxe and his wife Gunnhild, Mother of Kings, as they navigate political turmoil and warfare in their quest for the Norwegian throne. Set in a time of shifting allegiances and brutal betrayals, the series promises a high-stakes battle involving rival Scandinavian kings and even powerful English rulers.
Described as “a thundering, cataclysmic, compelling and utterly magical new Viking saga,” Bloodaxe aims to blend historical depth with gripping storytelling.
