India Welcomes Iran-Israel Ceasefire, Confirms Safe Evacuation Of 2,858 Citizens From Conflict Zone

New Delhi [India], June 25: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has officially welcomed reports of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, shortly after US President Donald Trump announced that both nations had agreed to halt hostilities following days of intense military escalation.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the MEA said it had been “closely monitoring developments overnight,” including US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, Iranian retaliatory missile attacks on US bases in Qatar, and the broader regional conflict.

🕊️ MEA: Dialogue, Not War, Is the Only Path Forward

“We remain deeply concerned about the prospects for overall and sustained regional security and stability, but we welcome reports of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel and the role played by the US and Qatar in bringing it about,” the MEA said.

The ministry reaffirmed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable tools to resolve multiple, interlinked conflicts in the region.

🇮🇳 Operation Sindhu: Over 2,800 Indians Brought Home

In parallel with diplomatic efforts, India continued its Operation Sindhu evacuation mission.

“A special flight carrying 282 Indian nationals from Mashhad, Iran, landed in New Delhi at 00:01 hrs on June 25,” the MEA confirmed.

This brings the total number of Indians safely evacuated from conflict-hit Iran to 2,858.

Many of the returnees expressed relief and gratitude toward the Indian government and Indian Embassy in Tehran. One evacuee noted that while the situation on the ground had improved following the ceasefire, the prior days had been “tense and uncertain.”

🧭 Ceasefire Details & India’s Position

India’s response comes in the wake of the US-led diplomatic push to halt further escalation. The ceasefire announcement followed:

  • US precision airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan
  • Iranian missile attacks on US military bases in Iraq and Qatar
  • A final Israeli retaliatory strike on a radar installation near Tehran before de-escalation

India, maintaining its long-standing non-interventionist policy, emphasized the importance of regional peace, calling the developments “encouraging” but urging all sides to maintain restraint moving forward.
