The buzz around Prime Video’s cult crime series Mirzapur is far from dying down. As Season 3 marked its premiere anniversary on July 5, 2024, actor Shweta Tripathi, who plays Gajagamini ‘Golu’ Gupta, confirmed in an exclusive interview with NDTV that both Season 4 and a feature film adaptation of Mirzapur are currently in development.
“Bahut zor-shor se kaam ho raha hai,” Tripathi said. “There’s a film and there’s Season 4. Last time it released near my birthday, I hope this birthday we share good news with all of you.”
What’s the Status of Mirzapur Season 4?
While Prime Video is yet to officially announce Season 4, Tripathi’s remarks have sparked excitement. The platform had already confirmed Mirzapur: The Film in October 2024, promising a cinematic expansion of the gritty Purvanchal universe.
Tripathi’s Latest Passion Project: Theatre
Apart from the Mirzapur franchise, Tripathi has returned to her theatre roots as a producer after 15 years. Her latest production, Cock, staged in New Delhi on June 6, is directed by Manish Gandhi and explores themes of identity, sexuality, and love. It stars Rytasha Rathore, Tanmay Dhanania, Sahir Mehta, and Harssh Singh.
“We are too much into ‘me, me’, ‘I, I’. I think it’s important to be ‘us’, as a community. Love and kindness are the answers — not in the Disney-type way, but real,” she reflected.
On LGBTQIA+ Representation in Art
Amid debates about LGBTQIA+ representation through cisgendered perspectives, Tripathi emphasized the importance of storytelling over identity-based casting:
“If someone is telling a story well and people are understanding it, they should go ahead. But yes, include people from the community so they feel heard and seen. That balance is important.”
Producer Mode: Inspired by Richa Chadha & Ali Fazal
Tripathi also revealed she’s stepping into film and series production, inspired by co-stars Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal, whose debut feature Girls Will Be Girls was a Sundance 2024 success and won the Independent Spirit Award in January 2025.
“Apne sapnon ko poora karne mein band bohot bajti. Cheeta [husband and rapper SlowCheeta] says he hasn’t seen me in days,” Tripathi laughed. “It’s tough, but I’m trying to find that balance.”
Despite the chaos, she says producing is fulfilling:
“It’s not easy but it’s simple. Once you take that step, you will have all kinds of experiences. But you will reach somewhere.”
