Ramban (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the much-awaited Vande Bharat Express between Katra and Srinagar on June 6, marking the inauguration of the Katra-Sangaldan rail link, which includes the iconic Chenab Bridge — the world’s highest railway bridge.
This development is seen as a historic milestone for Indian Railways and a transformative step for Jammu and Kashmir, connecting the region more closely with the rest of India.
Excitement and gratitude filled the air among local residents, who called it a dream come true. Speaking to ANI, Abdul Azeez Chandel expressed relief and appreciation, saying, “It will be very convenient if the train service begins here. We are very thankful to the government. It brings great comfort to the common people.”
Kesar Singh, another resident, reflected on the region’s past struggles and praised the present, “Earlier, the situation was bad due to militancy, but now everything is better. Nobody believed a train would ever come here. PM Modi deserves praise, especially for his strong decisions like Operation Sindoor.”
Others see this development as a gateway to progress and tourism. Chaudhary Ghulam Hussain said, “We’ve been waiting for this for a long time. It should also be extended to areas like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Srinagar to boost tourism and employment for our youth.”
Kuldeep Kumar Sharma, sharing the community’s sentiment, added, “We had no hope, but PM Modi made it happen. It’s a big moment because this train connects us with the rest of India. It was once a dream, but now it’s reality.”
Ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, tight security has been deployed at Udhampur Railway Station. The completion of this rail link strengthens regional connectivity and marks a major step in integrating Jammu and Kashmir with the national railway network.
