Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 27: Uttar Pradesh Minister Anil Rajbhar on Tuesday welcomed the Delhi Court’s closure of the POCSO case against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, calling the allegations “sponsored” and urging the Opposition to learn from the verdict.
“We welcome the decision of the Court. Sometimes, a lot of confusion arises. When the opposition raised allegations, we said that the allegations against our MP seem to be sponsored. The court’s order has proved this,” said Rajbhar in a statement to ANI.
He further added, “The Opposition should learn a lesson from such decisions of the court.”
Case Dismissal and Court Proceedings:
The Patiala House Court on Monday accepted the cancellation report filed by the Delhi Police in the POCSO case against Brij Bhushan, initially lodged based on a complaint by a then-minor wrestler.
Special Judge (POCSO) Gomati Manocha approved the cancellation, following the minor wrestler and her father’s appearance in court, where they verified their satisfaction with the police investigation and confirmed they were not challenging the report.
Background of the Case:
- The Delhi Police had filed a cancellation report in June 2023, after the complainant withdrew her statement.
- The case had been deferred multiple times by then-POCSO Judge Chhavi Kapoor before the final decision.
- On May 17, 2025, the complainant was again summoned to verify her statement.
- The 500-page report filed by the Delhi Police detailed their findings and justified dropping the charges under the POCSO Act.
Separate Ongoing Case:
In a second case at the Rouse Avenue Court, Brij Bhushan and his associate Vinod Tomar are facing a charge sheet under sections 354, 354A, 354D, 109, and 506 of the IPC, related to sexual harassment allegations by other wrestlers.
The court has ordered framing of charges and commencement of trial, with statements from prosecution witnesses to be recorded in upcoming sessions.
Singh’s Response:
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a former BJP MP, has consistently denied all allegations against him. He remains a contentious figure in Indian wrestling politics, with widespread media attention on the ongoing legal proceedings.
