Flights Cancelled Across Delhi And Northern India Amid Operation Sindoor Fallout

May 08, 2025: Flight operations at Delhi Airport and multiple other airports across northern India faced major disruptions on Thursday following the Indian Armed Forces’ Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. According to airport sources, a total of 90 flights were cancelled at Delhi Airport between 8 am and 2 pm, including 46 domestic departures, 33 domestic arrivals, five international departures, and six international arrivals.

The cancellations follow a government directive to shut down 21 airports in North and Northwestern India until May 10 due to heightened security concerns. The move comes in response to retaliatory threats after India launched precision strikes on nine terror sites in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Wednesday night.

Airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India, Akasa Air, and Air India Express have cancelled or rescheduled several flights. SpiceJet, in a travel advisory on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed the suspension of operations at six airports—Leh, Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Kandla, and Dharamshala—until 5:29 am IST on May 10.

Similarly, IndiGo has cancelled operations across 11 cities including Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Gwalior, Kishangarh, and Rajkot.

The Delhi Airport issued an advisory for passengers following India’s military response, which destroyed nine terror infrastructure targets in PoK. In retaliation, Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks on Indian military targets across Northern and Western India, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.

Indian defence systems successfully intercepted these attacks, and debris recovery operations are currently underway to collect evidence of the attempted strikes.
