IPL 2025: Pat Cummins Takes Blame After SRH’s 38-Run Loss To Gujarat Titans

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India]: Following Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) 38-run loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 51 of IPL 2025, SRH captain Pat Cummins took full responsibility for the defeat, admitting poor execution in key phases of the match.

The loss keeps the 2016 champions stranded at ninth place on the points table, with just three wins in 10 matches. One more loss from their remaining four games could end their playoff hopes.

“A couple of things. Our powerplay with the bat wasn’t too great. I was as guilty as anyone else. Probably let them get 20-30 extra runs. Maybe hang on to one or two catches — again, I’m guilty there,” said Cummins in the post-match presentation.

“We probably dished out too many bad balls. It’s a good wicket. Going for 140 in the last 14 overs was okay. Sharma batted nicely, and Nitish at the end. Left too much for the batters to do. Still, lots to play for,” he added, acknowledging the team’s flaws.

Match Recap:

Gujarat Titans piled up a daunting 224/6 after being put in to bat. Openers Shubman Gill (76) and Sai Sudharsan (48) laid a strong foundation, with Jos Buttler (64) adding further firepower. SRH bowlers struggled early, although Jaydev Unadkat picked up three wickets to slightly contain the damage.

In response, SRH’s chase started with promise as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma went after the bowlers, scoring 45 runs in just 4 overs. However, a spectacular diving catch by Rashid Khan dismissed Head for 20, triggering a collapse.

Despite a valiant 74-run knock from Abhishek and some late hits from Nitish Reddy, wickets fell at regular intervals. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Gerald Coetzee applied pressure, while Hyderabad crumbled under the mounting required rate.

SRH were eventually restricted to 186/7, falling well short of the target. Cummins, who also struggled with the ball, lamented the missed chances and said the team is still building for the future with a stable core post the mega-auction.
