Rohit Sharma Powers MI To Dominant Win Over SRH With Blazing Half-Century

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] – A blistering 70 off 46 balls by Rohit Sharma helped Mumbai Indians (MI) register a commanding seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their IPL 2025 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday.

Chasing a target of 144, MI overcame an early hiccup after losing Ryan Rickelton (11) at 13/1. Rohit, in sublime touch, partnered with Will Jacks (22) for a 64-run stand, stabilizing the innings before a fluent 53-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav (40 off 19)* sealed the game.

Rohit, who notched his second consecutive half-century, struck eight fours and three sixes, marking a strong return to form. His last back-to-back fifties came in 2016. After his dismissal by Eshan Malinga, Suryakumar kept the momentum going, finishing off the chase with a boundary as MI reached 146/3 in 15.4 overs. Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 2.

SRH’s Collapse and Comeback

Earlier, SRH recovered from a shocking 35/5 collapse to post 143/8, thanks to a gritty 99-run partnership between Heinrich Klaasen (71) and Abhinav Manohar (43).

MI’s bowlers were ruthless early on:

  • Trent Boult (4/26) triggered the collapse with wickets of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma.
  • Deepak Chahar (2/12) and Hardik Pandya (1) kept SRH under constant pressure.

Klaasen launched a counterattack, hitting nine fours and four sixes, while Manohar provided solid support. The duo accelerated in the death overs, gathering 53 runs in the last five overs. Klaasen brought up his first fifty of the season in 34 balls.

However, Jasprit Bumrah’s 300th T20 wicket ended Klaasen’s knock in the 19th over, and SRH could only add a few more before being restricted to 143.

Points Table Impact:

  • MI jumped to third place with 10 points (5 wins, 4 losses), riding high on their fourth consecutive victory.
  • SRH, with just 2 wins in 8 games, languish at ninth place, with playoff hopes slipping further away.

Key Highlights:

  • Rohit Sharma: 70 (46) – 8 fours, 3 sixes
  • Klaasen & Manohar: 99-run partnership
  • Trent Boult: 4/26
  • MI win with 26 balls to spare
