New Delhi [India], April 20: In the wake of the abduction and brutal killing of Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a Hindu minority leader in Bangladesh, spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev and India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) have voiced strong condemnation of the incident, highlighting a disturbing pattern of minority persecution in the country.
Taking to X, Sadhguru wrote,
“This savage persecution of the minority community in Bangladesh must stop. This is a blot on the subcontinent and on Humanity. Unacceptable.”
Roy, vice-president of the Biral unit of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, was reportedly abducted and beaten to death earlier this week in the Dinajpur district’s Biral upazila. He was a respected community leader from Basudebpur village under Shatagram Union.
India’s MEA, echoing public outrage, released a statement through spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, expressing distress and condemnation:
“This killing follows a pattern of systematic persecution of Hindu minorities under the interim government… We once again remind the interim government to live up to its responsibility of protecting all minorities, including Hindus, without inventing excuses or making distinctions.”
Police confirmed the postmortem has been completed, though no case has yet been filed by the family. Roy’s son, Sapan Roy, told ANI the family is currently focused on funeral proceedings.
“We are busy with our father’s funeral. That’s why no case has been filed,” he said.
Biral Police Station’s officer-in-charge, Abdus Sabur, added that authorities would take appropriate action following the postmortem findings.
This incident has reignited international concerns regarding religious freedom and minority safety in Bangladesh, with growing calls for justice and accountability.
