Saudi Arabia Halts Short-Term Visas For 14 Nations Including India And Pakistan, Ahead Of Hajj

Dubai [UAE]: In a move aimed at streamlining preparations for the upcoming Hajj season, Saudi Arabia has announced a temporary suspension on issuing new short-term visas for citizens of 14 countries, including India, Pakistan, and Egypt, Gulf News reported.

Visa Suspension Effective from April 13

The temporary ban, which will take effect on April 13, will apply to:

  • Business visit visas (single and multiple-entry)
  • E-tourist visas
  • Family visit visas

Other affected countries include Yemen, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Nigeria, Algeria, Indonesia, Iraq, Sudan, Bangladesh, and Libya.

Saudi authorities clarified that travelers who already hold valid visas will be permitted entry until April 13, but must exit the Kingdom by April 29.

Reason Behind the Suspension

The decision comes after the overcrowding and logistical challenges faced during last year’s Hajj, when numerous pilgrims entered the Kingdom using non-Hajj-specific visas.

“Authorities have identified the countries that contributed to the crisis last year,” said Basil Al Sisi, a member of Egypt’s Chamber of Tourism Companies, during a televised interview.

The visa halt is seen as a measure to improve crowd control, enhance safety, and ensure better organization during the pilgrimage.

Updated Guidelines for Umrah Visa Issuance

In tandem with this announcement, Saudi Arabia has revised its Umrah visa policy:

  • Umrah visas will be issued from the 14th of Dhu Al Hijjah each year.
  • Entry for Umrah pilgrims is allowed from Dhu Al Hijjah 14 to Shawwal 15.
  • All Umrah pilgrims must exit by the 1st of Dhu Al Qa’dah.

Saudi authorities have also reiterated the importance of obtaining the correct visa type for all religious pilgrimages and warned of legal consequences for violations.
