Chilean President Gabriel Boric Hails PM Modi As A Key Geopolitical Leader During India Visit

Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s exceptional diplomatic influence, stating that PM Modi is a “key geopolitical player” capable of engaging with world leaders across all spectrums.

During his remarks at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Boric acknowledged India’s growing global stature under PM Modi’s leadership:

“President Modi, you have the status nowadays that you can talk to every leader of the world. You’re supporting Trump, Zelenskyy, the European Union, and the Latin American leaders in Greece or Iran. That is something that no other leader can say now. So you’re a key player in the geopolitical atmosphere nowadays.”

Strengthening India-Chile Relations

The visit marks a significant milestone in 76 years of India-Chile diplomatic relations. Expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome, President Boric highlighted India’s transformation over the past decade:

“I am here for the first time for a State visit… For the past 16 years, no one from Chile has come here, and in that 16 years, India has changed a lot.”

At the official banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu, President Boric reiterated Chile’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with India:

“Chile is a country that is connected to the world, and now we want to work on our relationship with India. Today, we have signed several MoUs.”

Key Areas of Collaboration

📜 Chile and India signed multiple MoUs, covering:
Cultural exchange
Antarctic research (as Chile serves as a major gateway to the Antarctic continent)
Trade & strategic autonomy

President Boric emphasized Chile’s global outlook, noting that his country maintains relations with China, the US, the EU, Latin American nations, and the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, Indonesia, and Australia.

“Now we want to deepen our relationship with India, and we have taken some important steps today.”
